Swimming While Drowned
Who were the Bewlay Sisters
And why did they never vibrate?
This riddle confusing
And quite unamusing
Was told to me when I was eight
Where was the Spanner of Knowledge?
And where was its ignorant twin?
This baleful inquiry
Has been in my diary
Since first I was covered with skin
Who were the Sultans of String?
And why were they wedged in that tree?
This long-standing poser
Was mentioned by Rosa
In the days when we lived by the sea
What was the hammer of Thrace?
And which of us knows of its lore?
This crusty old teaser
Foxed Julius Caesar
And rendered Octavian sore
Where were the Kidneys of Darkness?
and how did they work in the dark?
This baffling enigma
Is stained with such stigma
That no-one dare question its mark
But one thing we ALL know, for certain
The surest sure thing since The Bang
No mermaid is made from meringue.
