Apparent Crimes
A packet of cheese defies the knife,
As targets sneer at bullets
Across the country, which is rife
With screams of long-dead pullets
That rend the heart of my unruly wife
Whose pocket achieves no sadder strain
As haddock swim upstream
To dodge the never-ending rain
That in the gutters will not teem
That rends each part of my unruly brain
To that bluff cheese, the saw must be brought -
As guillotine to traitor
When neck muscles must strain and be taut
Till, thirty seconds later
The edge of axe on bone is caught
