Folks Who Smoke Soap
Mendicant Sam was a broken man
A broken man was he
Living as he did in a burned-out van
Parked underneath a toppling tree
Mendicant Sue was a trashy type
A trashy type was she
Dwelling as she did in a sewerage pipe
And sharing her wares for free.
Mendicant Ben was a scrupulous man
A scrupulous man was he
Abiding as he 'neath an old frying pan
In a pothole under the sea
Mendicant Lil was a frivolous gal
A frivolous gal she was
Residing as she did in an oversized pail
Over a rainbow somewhere in Oz
Mendicant Lou was a bathetic fool
A bathetic fool indeed
Bunking as he did in a shabby old hut
And smoking his homegrown weed
Mendicant Sal was a washed-up sort
A washed-up sort was Sal
Crashing as she did down at the Y
And down an abandoned well
