The Spoonbill Generator

Long Unbidden Melody

Wine and women, women and song [F]

Song and cheer, for you I long [N]

It's been so long, I feel abashed
This tune, I know, has been re-hashed [F]

I knew this tune when I was young [Beefy]

And still recall when it was sung [N]

Upon the Beacon Theater stage [Dassn't Say]

For stage folk it was all the rage [Beefy]

When young Sir Larry trod the boards [fester]

And parrots were living and pined for no fjords [Dassn't Say]

'Twas whistled then by high and low [Beefy]

Now I forget - how did it go? [N]

Doobee doobee doo, dah dah dah dee dum [Kansas Sam]

Yes, that is the ditty I still often hum [F]

I stole it from my main man, Frank [Karin]

When young, he really was quite lank [F]

He was a strange one in the night [Beefy]

With odd, perverted appetites [fester]

As I recall, the year was vile [Beefy]

I've filed it in my round dreck file [Dassn't Say]

I tried to do it my way too [Grayman]

For I was young - I little knew [Beefy]

How theatre life can change a man [Ethetran]

Now, let me tell how it began ... [Beefy]
