No Way to the Afterlife
I wonder: is it worth the time?
To elongate my telescope?
Or be annoying as a mime?
My first response would be a "nope".
I wonder: is it worth the cost
To buy a barrel full of lye?
Is fragrance gained worth money lost?
My first response would be an "aye".
I wonder: is it worth the injury
To rid the world of ev'ry thug?
Committing even perjury?
My first response would be "let's hug".
I wonder: is it worth the price?
To snack on what they vend?
Or like our cats, should we eat mice?
My first response would be "don't spend"
I wonder: is it worth the loss
To starve my sagging hips away?
Dieting just makes me cross
My first response would be "You don't say?"
I wonder: is it worth the effort
To climb the corporate ladder's rungs?
To scratch and claw just like a leopard
And bootlicking is hard on tongues
I wonder: is it worth the grief?
To spin my many whirligigs?
Like us, their span is all too brief
Because we overgorge, like pigs
I wonder: is it worth the pain
To fry my hair with Clairol dye?
My roots will just grow out again
My first response would be a "why?"
