Situtationist Funeral
Pallbearers of uneven height
Mourners giggle at the sight
And snigger at the rocking bier
The curate stands beside the grave
It looks like he forgot to shave
Although there's soap all round his ear
In mourning black, a fleeting crow
Bisects the evening indigo
And lands upon the widow's shoulder
To grimace through the falling sleet
More doleful than a parakeet
And fifty times more colder
The tomb parades an epitaph
An obscure reference to Falstaff
Intended by the parted to bemuse
Those readers who are literate
Or thespians inveterate
But mystify all others who peruse
A fitting grey and dismal day
To send our comrade on his way
He'll itch, itch, itch, yet never scratch
And as we part for tea and cake
We hope that he will never wake
Whom carrion crows despatch
