Piebald Cheques
'The first day of the rest of your life', they sang,
'Begins with a single step'
But what my true love gave to me
The chancred sore, the burning pee
An invoice for her monstrous fee
Nine crabs, five ticks, and one parched flea
Have left me quite devoid of pep
My wakening was not to relief from pain
The chittering of the birds outside
Penetrated to the room within my head
Where I lay on my fevered bed
With heart of iron, fists of lead
"I really should get up," I said
But could not even take a step
