Flames Coated With Heavy Penalties
The flames were gone, but, yet, a tiny ember
Glowed. You asked if we should breathe upon it
To rekindle cooling passion. I remember
When you would serenade me with a sonnet
But that was long ago and far away
What once we had I shall forevere treasure
-I love you still, but I cannot excuse
The many pangs and arrows beyond measure
I'd be more kind if I were in your shoes
But then, alas, the guys would think me gay
Sizzling gazes turn to icy stares
Regrets, recriminations--souvenirs
Your fickle nature caught me unawares
Which explains why I now sip too many beers
And cry until the dawning of the day
