Elizabethan Lemonade
It is said that a codpiece, selected to cover
The privates of Commons or Kings
Held coin to attract the unscrupulous lover
Who was not immune to such things
A bustle could hustle a riverboat gambler
Whose eye never strayed from the ball
But those who knew well that fair Rose was a rambler
Refused to respond to her call
When wearing a doublet, always take care
To cover your singular trunk
If you're Siamese, though, and a twin, you must share
Or people will think you are drunk
It is said that a breastplate, selected to hamper
The breathing of Joan of Orleans
Can also be used as a fireplace damper
(Whatever that curious phrase means)
